A long time ago, in the history of Windows, Microsoft realized that people would want to use audio on their computers. Microsoft, in their will to control everything that happens under Windows, made an Audio Compression Manager (ACM). Actually the Microsoft 32-bit ACM is very stable, fast, and reliable, as Microsoft products go. In addition to all of that, it is automatically included in each and every installion of Windows 95, Windows 98, and Windows NT. Wouldn't it be nice to have compressed MPEG audio data inside a WAV file? Opticom sells a full featured MPEG Layer 3 ACM codec for hundreds of dollars.
It encodes very slowly, and it can only decode one audio stream at a time...
Not very effective for music editing, DJ work, and cross fades. QDesign corporation has developed an ACM codec that delivers REAL-TIME encoding and FASTER THAN REAL-TIME decoding of MPEG Layer 2 data inside a WAV file. The QDesign ACM codec integrates seamlessly into the multimedia functions of the operating system, as it should. Also, it can decode multiple audio streams simultaneously. Audio Box has written a filter specific for the QMPEG format. This filter was written to give AMPS users one click access to high speed, high quality MPEG compression while using Cool Edit 96 or Cool Edit Pro. Compare encoding times, QMPEG is twice as fast to encode as ADPCM, and over ten times faster than MP3! Look at the chart on the compression information page, and you'll see the time you can save. Audio Box developed this filter for AMPS users to have an easy interface to work with the QDesign ACM codec. For a registered AMPS user, the purchase price of the QDesign ACM codec is $50 per computer. This is a special price only available to owners of AMPS. Audio Box will also provide the Cool Edit filter to other parties that purchase the ACM codec, but the normal purchase price is $80 per computer. To purchase the QDesign ACM Codec and Cool Edit Filter, or other Audio Box products, visit the order page. |
